Building Division

NOTICE: Amendments to the building codes in Chapter 10 have been updated. Any permits applied for after May 29th, 2024, will be subject to the updated amendments. See Ordinance No. 24-025 for the new amendments. The ordinance will be put into the Village Code in the next codification cycle. Some key points-

• The changes are technical in nature and do not affect administrative elements, such as registration requirements or fees.

• State codes have NOT been locally amended.

• The adopted code versions have NOT changed (2018 IBC, 2018 IRC, etc. are still in effect).

The Building Division is responsible for building permits, contractor registration, and certificates of occupancy.

This division ensures all construction, including improvements to private property, complies with the building codes and ordinances adopted by the Village of Bolingbrook. The process generally involves permit application submittal, plan review, and inspections.

Building codes are a minimum standard protecting property, life, health, and public welfare, by ensuring buildings and construction projects meet a quality standard set for all properties in the Village of Bolingbrook.

Permits are required for a variety of construction projects, such as new construction, renovations, additions, alterations, and repairs, and must be obtained prior to the start of any work, regardless of whether the work is completed by a property owner or contractor.

Online Permitting

The Building Division is excited to offer the ability to apply for permits online. Online Permitting provides the convenience of applying for and obtaining a permit without ever needing to leave your home or office.

Inspections

All approved permits, with the exception of residential Fence Permits, are subject to inspections performed by a representative on behalf of the Village of Bolingbrook. Requests for inspections must be made at least three (3) business days in advance. The Building Division will make all efforts to honor inspection requests; however, please be advised, inspections are scheduled on a first-come, first-serve basis.
