The Drone Unit is a specialized team that utilizes Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to enhance public safety, improve operational efficiency, and provide aerial support for law enforcement activities. Core Responsibilities
- Search and Rescue Operations: Deploy drones to locate missing persons in urban, rural, or hazardous environments.
- Crime Scene Documentation: Capture aerial photographs and video for accurate scene mapping and evidence preservation.
- Traffic Crash Investigation: Assist in traffic crash reconstruction by providing high-resolution aerial imagery and data collection capabilities.
- Traffic and Crowd Monitoring: Provide real-time aerial views during large events or traffic incidents to improve situational awareness.
- Tactical Support: Assist REACT and other specialized units with reconnaissance during high-risk operations.
- Disaster Response: Assess damage and identify hazards during natural disasters or major incidents.
- Surveillance and Investigations: Conduct lawful surveillance in compliance with legal and departmental policies.
- Community Engagement: Demonstrate drone capabilities at public events to promote transparency and trust.
Training & Standards
Drone operators are certified under FAA Part 107 regulations and receive ongoing training in flight operations, safety protocols, and evidence handling. All missions adhere to strict privacy and legal guidelines.
