Evidence Technicians

Evidence Technicians are sworn officers trained in the proper collection, preservation, documentation, and processing of physical evidence in criminal investigations. They play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of evidence and ensuring compliance with legal and departmental standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • Crime Scene Processing: Secure and process crime scenes, including photographing, sketching, and collecting physical evidence.
  • Evidence Collection & Preservation: Ensure all evidence is properly packaged, labeled, and stored to maintain chain of custody.
  • Fingerprinting & Impression Evidence: Collect latent fingerprints, shoeprints, and other impression evidence.
  • DNA & Trace Evidence Handling: Gather biological and trace materials for forensic analysis.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of evidence handling.
  • Courtroom Testimony: Provide expert testimony regarding evidence collection and processing procedures.
  • Property Room Management: Assist in organizing and maintaining evidence storage facilities in compliance with policy.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Knowledge of forensic science principles and crime scene investigation techniques.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in high-pressure environments and maintain professionalism.
