Evidence Technicians
Evidence Technicians are sworn officers trained in the proper collection, preservation, documentation, and processing of physical evidence in criminal investigations. They play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of evidence and ensuring compliance with legal and departmental standards.
Core Responsibilities
- Crime Scene Processing: Secure and process crime scenes, including photographing, sketching, and collecting physical evidence.
- Evidence Collection & Preservation: Ensure all evidence is properly packaged, labeled, and stored to maintain chain of custody.
- Fingerprinting & Impression Evidence: Collect latent fingerprints, shoeprints, and other impression evidence.
- DNA & Trace Evidence Handling: Gather biological and trace materials for forensic analysis.
- Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records of evidence handling.
- Courtroom Testimony: Provide expert testimony regarding evidence collection and processing procedures.
- Property Room Management: Assist in organizing and maintaining evidence storage facilities in compliance with policy.
Skills & Qualifications
