Mary Alexander-Basta

Mary Alexander-Basta

Mayor

Born in Egypt, Mary Alexander-Basta moved to the United States and grew up in Tennessee. She studied Mass Communications, TV & Radio Broadcasting at the American University in Cairo and then attended Tennessee State University, studying Hospitality and Hotel-Restaurant Management.

Her professional background includes Social and Corporate Event Planning, Hotel and Club Management at locations such as the Palmer House Hilton, Four Season, and the Chicago Yacht Club where she became the first female General Manager in the Club’s 125-year history. She also has been involved in several initiatives and projects to support the Egypt Cancer Network 57357 & AFNCI, a nonprofit organization that provides comprehensive care and research for children with cancer.

Her professional experience along with her expertise in strategic planning, communication, sales management, and relationship building has supported her in her goals as Mayor of the Village of Bolingbrook. They include improving the quality of life, economic growth, and civic participation in the diverse and vibrant community.

Before stepping into office as Mayor in August of 2020, Mary was involved in a multitude of ways. Some of her past community experience includes serving as a Village Trustee, serving on the village’s Public Safety and Public Services Committees, Chair of the Bolingbrook Plan Commission, President of the Bloomfield West II Homeowners Association, executive board member of the Bolingbrook Soccer Club, President of her children’s elementary and middle school PTAs, and founding vice president of Bolingbrook STEM Association for youth.

She received recognition as the recipient of the CAPE (Coordination of Parent and groups for Educational Efficiency) in 2013, 2017 and 2019, was Bolingbrook’s Female Citizen of the Year in 2018, and was recognized as one of the Top 20 Global Women of Excellence in 2021. She was selected to the Empower10 by the Arab Business & Professional Association and was featured in Shine Powerful Women Magazine in 2022.

Mary and her husband, Dr. Emad Basta, are parents of two sons, Peter and Benjamin. She continues to serve the community and greater area involving herself in a multitude of clubs, events, and through the support of non-profit organizations.

Martha "Marti" M. Barton

Martha "Marti" M. Barton

Village Clerk

A native Ohioan, Marti Barton moved to Bolingbrook with her family in 1987, having been attracted to the village by its diversity and reasonably priced housing options. Marti stepped right into public service providing auxiliary communications as a licensed ham radio operator during the Plainfield tornado disaster in 1990 and has been serving the community ever since.

She is a widow, after being married to her late husband Keith Barton for 28 years. She has four adult children/stepchildren, a daughter-in-law, and two beautiful granddaughters, who all live in the area.



EDUCATION

  • Successful completion of the Illinois Municipal League’s “Role of the Clerk” which is a Municipal Clerks of Illinois training program.
  • Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Speech/Theatre with a minor in Education from Adrian College in Adrian, Michigan.
  • Pastoral Ordination from the Universal Life Church and Monastery in 2010



COMMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT

  • Currently serving her 12th year on the governing board of the Illinois Aviation Museum, including leadership positions on the Marketing and Cavalcade of Planes committees.
  • Served on the Alternatives to Suspension Committee for the Valley View School District.
  • “Ham” radio operator since 1987, technician-plus class license KA9ZJJ.
  • Lifetime member of the Bolingbrook Amateur Radio Society
  • Trained severe weather spotter, Six-County Skywarn Network since 1990



PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

  • As an ordained non-denominational minister, founded Joyful Promises Officiant Services in 2010, performing weddings, vow renewals, and civil union ceremonies.
  • Established marketing/copywriting consulting firm WordCrafters, Inc. in 1999.
  • Many leadership positions with the Bolingbrook Area Chamber of Commerce: 12 years on the Chamber Board of Directors, One year as Chamber president, Co-chair for the Small Business Coalition (10 years), Co-chair for the Bolingbrook Area Networking Group (5 years), Chamber Ambassador, including co-chair for two years (21 years)
  • English teacher and substitute teacher in five school districts in both Ohio and Illinois.
  • Award-winning Toastmaster since 2002, serving in a variety of club and district leadership positions
  • Business Manager for Industrial Flooring Supply/Preservation Polymers 1996-99

Village Trustee

Trustee Lawler has been a Resident Since 1986 and was first appointed to the Village Board in 1995 to fill a vacancy. He won his first election in April 1997. He currently is the Deputy Mayor and Chairs the Village's Public Safety Committee and the Public Services Committee. He has five children, twelve grandchildren and is a member of St. Dominic Church.

Carpanzano currently is the Chair of the Village of Bolingbrook’s Finance Committee. He also serves on the Public Services Committee. He is married to his wife Nadia, and they have two children: their son (Luca) and their daughter (Mina). Their family attends The Compass Church.

Village Trustee

Trustee Doris has been a Bolingbrook resident since July of 1995. Graduating from Bolingbrook High School in 2007, Troy was involved in both the music and athletic programs. He earned a Track and Field scholarship to the University of Iowa after competing at both the state and national level in high school. Troy moved back to Bolingbrook in 2015 and went on to compete in the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics as well as the 2018 Commonwealth games in Queensland Australia.

Bhavini K. Patel

Village Trustee

Bhavini Patel was elected to the Bolingbrook Board of Trustees in April 2025. A proud Bolingbrook resident since 2007, Bhavini is dedicated to building a connected, inclusive community grounded in synergy and innovation. Originally from London, she lives in Bolingbrook with her husband, Kelan, and their two daughters, Jena and Maya.

Village Trustee

Trustee Quintero currently sits on Village of Bolingbrook’s Finance Committee and the Public Safety Committee. He is married to his wife Paola and together they have two boys Frank and Kenneth. Soccer, is very important to them as they are a very passionate soccer family. They share a home with their 3-year-old American Bulldog, Meatball. His family are members of Living Water Community Church.
