The Village of Bolingbrook Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the Village’s sanitary sewer collection system, lift stations, and wastewater facilities.

Residents are encouraged to report wastewater-related concerns as soon as possible so Public Works staff can evaluate the issue and determine the appropriate response.

Common Wastewater Concerns

Residents should contact Public Works regarding:

Sewer Backup

Examples include:

  • Wastewater backing up into a home or business.
  • Slow draining caused by possible sewer issues.
  • Water or wastewater coming from floor drains.

Sewer Overflow

Report:

  • Wastewater overflow in yards, streets, or public areas.
  • Manhole overflow.
  • Sanitary sewer discharge concerns.

Sewer Odor Concerns

Residents may report unusual or persistent sewer odors that may require investigation.

Sewer Infrastructure Concerns

Report:

  • Damaged manholes.
  • Missing or damaged sewer covers.
  • Sinkholes or ground settlement near sewer infrastructure.
  • Other visible sewer-related issues.

Before Contacting Public Works

If you are experiencing a sewer backup:

1.    Stop using water inside the home or business.

2.    Avoid contact with wastewater.

3.    Check if neighbors are experiencing similar issues, if possible.

4.    Contact Public Works immediately.

When submitting a concern, please provide:

  • Name.
  • Address/location of concern.
  • Phone number.
  • Email address.
  • Description of the issue.
  • When the issue started.
  • Photos or videos, if available.

Providing detailed information helps Public Works staff respond more efficiently.

What Happens After a Report Is Submitted?

Once a concern is received:

1.    Public Works staff review the information provided.

2.    Staff may inspect the location to determine the cause.

3.    Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

4.    Additional information may be requested if needed.

Response times may vary depending on the severity of the issue and current operational demands.
