The Village of Bolingbrook Public Works Department maintains the sanitary sewer system that collects wastewater from homes and businesses throughout the community and transports it to the Village’s Water Reclamation Facilities for treatment.

How the Sanitary Sewer System Works

Wastewater from homes and businesses flows through private sewer laterals and connects to the Village’s sanitary sewer collection system.

The Village system includes:

  • Water Reclamation Facilities.

Public Works staff maintain and monitor this system to ensure wastewater is safely transported and treated.

Preventing Sewer Backups

Residents can help prevent sewer problems by following these guidelines:

Only Flush Toilet Paper

Items that should NOT be flushed include:

❌ Wipes (even those labeled flushable)

❌ Paper towels

❌ Cleaning products

❌ Feminine hygiene products

❌ Diapers

❌ Grease or oils

Fats, Oils & Grease (FOG)

Fats, oils, and grease can build up inside sewer pipes and cause blockages.

Residents should:

✔ Allow grease to cool.

✔ Place grease in a container or trash.

✔ Wipe greasy pans before washing.

✔ Never pour cooking oil or grease down drains.
