How the Village Handles Snow and Ice Control

The Village of Bolingbrook Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining safe travel conditions on Village-maintained roadways during winter weather events.

Snow and ice control operations are carefully planned and prioritized to provide the greatest benefit to the traveling public. Public Works crews monitor weather forecasts, road conditions, and pavement temperatures to determine the appropriate response.

During significant weather events, crews may work continuously until priority routes have been treated and cleared.

Public Works begin preparing for snow operations before a storm arrives by monitoring weather forecasts and road conditions.

Depending on the expected severity of the event, crews may:

• Prepare snow removal equipment.

• Load salt and materials.

• Assign personnel and equipment.

• Begin pre-treatment operations when conditions require

Snow and ice control operations may begin before snowfall starts if conditions indicate pre-treatment will improve roadway conditions.
